Welcome to The Birkdale Clinic
Physiotherapy for neurological disorders - adult and paediatric

In their book (published in 1998 by Butterworth Heinemann) ‘Neurological Rehabilitation Optimizing Motor Performance’ Janet Carr and Roberta Shepherd argue that neurological rehabilitation is most effective when focused on the cognitive engagement of each affected individual with their environment and working to increase physical strength and endurance sufficiently to enable desired motor skills to be undertaken. The therapist role is that of expert practitioner to assist with coaching and problem solving, with liaison to other expert help where necessary. Their reference is to research proving the link between cognition and action, as well as that illustrating the role of pathology and adaptation in rehabilitation. I would refer you to the book for further information.
